I did a really fun trip on the Upper Green Gorge last Saturday, my first time down (thank you Claire Hews, for leading the way and showing me a clean line through Mercury!)  Afterwards Claire pointed me towards this nice instructional video from the Nantahala Outdoor Center on how to execute a good water boof, it’s a [...]

Here’s a video I saw the other day on the Kayaking Sucks website, an obvious example of some of the other stuff (i.e., aside from getting sucked into a massive hole, etc.) that can unexpectedly go wrong you’re kayaking.  (Getting sucked into a massive hole I’ve pretty much come to expect.)

They make some good points on [...]

Since a lot of whitewater kayakers are downhill skiers as well I thought I’d use that as an excuse to post this totally non-whitewater kayaking-related video – ostensibly in deference to what I think is our earliest ski season opening on record, but really just because it has some great tree skiing shots and I like [...]

I was messing around on the Jackson Kayak site recently and from there somehow ended up finding this video about Jackson team member Dr. Jessie Stone.  In addition to being a superb kayaker and apparently an extremely nice person (going from her interview and the way she comes across on the old Eric Jackson’s Strokes and Concepts video, [...]

Yesterday Brett Barton, Rob McKibbin and I met up with Rick Paag and Chuck Kapise at Split Rock wave on the Skykomish River.  Here’s the video of those guys surfing it at around 5200 cfs (Chuck’s not in this one but I have a bunch more to post later that he’s in.)

The actual best video [...]

Check out this video taken by Jared Seiler of Team Pyranha – after their visit to Seattle they headed up to BC and were filming when a tugboat capsized in the Skookumchuck Narrows.  One person got trapped in the overturned boat and Dave Fusilli headed out to the rescue – pretty amazing stuff.
(By the way, the [...]

Chris Peele sent me this video of whitewater kayaker Rush Sturges doing hand rolls down this massive series of pool drops – it’s pretty amazing.

When I posted the last video of Shanna and Nicole’s waterfall drop I clicked on one of the related videos and saw this one of people in Creature Crafts running POW in Tumwater Canyon at 13,400 last year – it’s totally insane. Tumwater Canyon is petrifying to me, and at higher levels I drive by with [...]

Dale Bonson got this cool video of Shanna Gachen and Nicole LeBlanc running the waterfall drop on the Wenatchee a weekend or so ago – wish I could have been there!

Today we had an awesome run on the Skykomish at around 3500 cfs, starting from somewhere below Sunset Falls (Powerline?) all the way down to Big Eddy.  For me this was kind of a step up to do Class III/III+ at a somewhat pushy level – naturally I flipped a few times but rolled back [...]
